What We Can Do

During my run this morning I saw two runners wearing the 2013 Boston Marathon shirts and it broke my heart. We have seen so many tragedies in the past years and this one has really hit close to home, even though I wasn’t physically there and it is a far reach for me to ever qualify for Boston. But it is a dream and goal that I will always have.

This attack was one not only on the city of Boston but also on the entire running community. It is terrorism at its worst. However, I am so thankful for the first responders and people who went and continue to go above and beyond to help those who were affected. Runners, and especially marathon runners, are a special breed. The heart and work that goes into this sport is something I cannot explain in words. And this event would be nothing without the thousands of spectators that line up in every race to cheer and support the runners.

In situations like this, all you want to do is help but in reality there is not much you can do except to show those affected that you support them and rise up as a community. We can run. We can show the terrorists that they will never defeat the sport.

On Monday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m., the NYC running community is hosting a run in support of Boston. They will be meeting at Tavern on the Green. If you can run, please come out and do so!

Adidas has also released a limited shirt with 100% of the proceeds going to the One Fund Boston.

This is also a good article about what runners can do to help. It may not be much but everything counts right now.
